Introduction:

Neuriva is a supplement that aims to provide better brain performance. There is a lack of studies that could prove the efficacy of Neuriva. That’s because it is new to the market. However, the fact that it is made with just two ingredients has left people surprised, and want to know more about it.

People are really wondering if these two ingredients deliver the goodness on their own, or Neuriva makes false claims. Let’s find out everything in the review.

What is Neuriva?

Neuriva is marketed by a company named Schiff Vitamins. It is a supplement that caters to brain health. The manufacturers claim that this supplement relies on only two ingredients for neuronal well-being and improving energy and focus.

The company claims that Neuriva contains only verified, decaffeinated, and sans GMO ingredients to improve overall brain performance.

This product is available in two stacks; Neuriva Original and Neuriva Plus. We have decided to review Neuriva Original here.

Neuriva Review:

We already know that Neuriva is manufactured and distributed by Schiff Vitamins. This company is popular for producing the best-quality multivitamins and supplements. Seeing its popularity, Neuriva is available all across the country, in stores and online.

According to the claims of Schiff Vitamins, their products help users in five areas:

  • Accuracy
  • Focus
  • Learning
  • Concentration
  • Memory

Every nootropic manufacturing company makes these claims. So, to figure out whether it works or not, let’s take a closer look at the ingredients.

Neuriva ingredients:

When searching for potent nootropics, some names are very common in almost all the ingredients. The ingredients like bacopa monnieri, resveratrol, acetyl-l-carnitine, and rhodiola rosea are some of the popular choices of every nootropic. Most importantly, these ingredients have a lot of scientific research and evidence that support the nootropic’s efficacy.

We expected the same ingredients in Neuriva Brain Supplement, but we found none of them to our dismay. In fact, it had only two ingredients; phosphatidylserine and coffee fruit extract.

So, we have our reservations regarding the potency of this brain supplement. Either the two ingredients are extremely powerful in providing cognitive enhancement, or we have no credible source to support this hyped-up product.

So, where does Neuriva fall on this scale? Let the ingredients decide this.

·        Phosphatidylserine:

Phosphatidylserine is a naturally occurring phospholipid in the brain and helps to support healthy brain cell generation. It also acts as a cell signaler, where it helps with apoptosis.

Apoptosis is termed as programmed cell death. It occurs naturally and is a normal part of cell regeneration. On the death of cells, phosphatidylserine moves from inside the brain to outside in the cells. When the immune cells detect this process, they know that it is time to kill the cell.

This whole process is vital because it ensures that the old and damaged cells are replaced by new and healthy cells. Thus, it is integral to maintaining healthy levels of cognitive performance.

With the advancing age, the levels of phosphatidylserine decline. But don’t worry; supplementation can help maintain the levels. The Neuriva label states that 100 mg of phosphatidylserine will provide the ideal boost needed for brain cells.

However, we think that it is difficult for phosphatidylserine to do all the work on its own. Therefore, stacking it with other nootropics can help with better results and improved cognitive performance.

All that said, we still wonder why it wasn’t mentioned as the first ingredient on the label. As compared with the other ingredient, coffee fruit extract, it improves the brain function better.

·        Coffee fruit extract:

This ingredient is the first one mentioned on the label. This is a new ingredient and lacks research on healthy individuals.

Regarding the studies done on coffee fruit extract, the closest thing we can relate is the research done on Whole Coffee Fruit Extract. However, both of them are not the same thing.

Whole Coffee Fruit Extract is obtained from the whole coffee fruit of the common coffee bean. It is a patented extract and is extracted from brightly colored red fruit. It is wrapped around the coffee beans and comes with brain-boosting compounds and impressive antioxidant content.

Chemicals such as procyanidins are found in this extract. These chemicals are associated with the protection of brain cells. It is also known to raise BDNF levels due to its unique profile of polyphenols.

BDNF is a crucial component for improving brain health. It not only increases mental clarity and focus but also helps to build new pathways in the brain.

So, using Whole Coffee Fruit Extract can be the right thing to do in a nootropic extract. But we don’t understand the point of using coffee fruit extract. It simply means that the extract is obtained from the coffee fruit. This point is unclear to us and leaves a lot of questions like

What is the nootropic significance of the extract?

What are the components of the extract?

Or even how much of the components are required to provide nootropic benefits?

All these relevant questions remain unanswered with the simple statement that this supplement contains coffee fruit extract. Therefore, we cannot tell if coffee fruit extract gives the same results as its counterpart because the information is missing. However, we think that coffee fruit extract may have none of the active ingredients found in Whole Coffee Fruit Extract. Therefore, due to the lack of evidence, coffee fruit extract is not yet a trustworthy ingredient for improving brain performance.

Now, we realize that the most potent stacks will contain far more than just two ingredients. Each ingredient plays its own role. Some will venture into long-term brain enhancement, others into mood enhancement. Some nootropics might focus more on alertness levels, while others will focus on memory improvement. However, the potency of Neuriva seems to rely on only two ingredients.

That is why we are facing difficulties in finding any credibility to the claims. One of the ingredients is very beneficial and researched, but the other has no scientific support to back it up, making it quite untrustworthy.

Other ingredients:

The label also mentions some other ingredients used in the supplement. These are mainly fillers and include soy lecithin, rice bran, silicon dioxide, microcrystalline, and capsule (titanium dioxide, hypromellose, pectin, and carrageenan.

These ingredients are used as filling agents to bind the ingredients together to fill capsules. They help to obtain consistent capsule weight and product dosing. Also, some of these filling agents assist in manufacturing and stabilizing the final product.

Here’s a quick breakdown of these fillers:

  • Titanium dioxide serves as a filler for whitening products.
  • Soy lecithin is used as an emulsifier or lubricant and prevents the clumping of the active ingredients.
  • Rice bran helps compact powders together as it contains natural oils.
  • Microcrystalline is a bulking agent. It is used in supplements when medicinal ingredients are too small.
  • Hypromellose acts as a vegan alternative to gelatin.
  • Silicon dioxide finds its use as a capsule filler and flow agent.
  • Carrageenan is an additive. It is used to thicken, preserve, and emulsify ingredients.
  • Pectin is commonly used as a thickening agent.

You might not know it, but fillers are very cheap, and active ingredients are expensive. Although some fillers preserve the integrity of active ingredients, they can also reduce the number of active ingredients in each serving. Therefore, the more fillers are listed on the label of the product; the more doubt arises about the effectiveness of its active ingredients.

In the case of Neuriva, we have only two active ingredients, which are competing with a number of fillers.

Side effects of Neuriva:

There seem to be no side effects associated with Neuriva. Maybe because the formula is underdosed and cannot affect the cognitive functioning much.

Its only potent ingredient is phosphatidylserine, which is naturally found in the brain. As its levels decline with age, it makes sense to supplement Neuriva for optimal brain health.

However, we cannot say the same about coffee fruit extract.

On the other hand, Neuriva contains soy and rice. Some people are allergic to them, and Neuriva may prove to be detrimental for such people.

Pros and Cons of Neuriva:

Pros:

  • It contains phosphatidylserine
  • Is safe for most people

Cons:

  • Is not much researched
  • Underdosed
  • Too expensive
  • It does not include many crucial nootropics found in other potent brain supplements.

Neuriva Reviews:

We found mixed reviews on Neuriva. Some people were very happy as they experienced positive results. On the other hand, some were dissatisfied and claimed that the supplement did not show any effect on them.

Neuriva Dosage:

According to the information provided on the official website, this supplement is suitable for adults 18 years and older. They should take one capsule daily before bedtime for optimal results.

Neuriva Plus:

Neuriva Original was upgraded to Neuriva Plus. This upgrade seems more promising as it contains vitamins B6 and B12 along with folate.

These vitamins are known to offer many benefits in the area of cognition and memory.

·        Vitamin B6:

According to studies, B6 helps the body to make non-epinephrine and serotonin. Both the compounds work effectively to enhance the mood and reduce stress levels.

Some of the studies also claim that vitamin B6 decreases homocysteine levels linked to memory impairment and Alzheimer’s disease. However, more research and evidence are needed to understand the effect of B6 on brain function better.

·        Vitamin B12:

Vitamin B12 is known to prevent brain atrophy. In this way, it avoids the loss of neurons in the brain and saves people from memory loss and dementia.

The low levels of vitamin B12 in the body can lead to poor memory performance and dementia in older adults.

Both B12 and B6 are used for the formation of serotonin and dopamine, which are mood-boosting neurotransmitters.

·        Folate:

Folate is also an essential vitamin to supplement because its deficiency can lead to dementia or memory loss. Also, it is a promising and stand-alone treatment for depression and stress. It plays a crucial role in the development of the nervous system during fetal development. Therefore, it is a necessary component of the brain.

Folate is needed at every stage of growth, with the highest incidence of folate deficiency in the elderly.

As folate is the major player in brain atrophy in adults, it is very important to supplement it. It is due to damage bought to DNA by an increase in homocysteine levels and increased oxidative stress levels.

As folate develops dip, the homocysteine levels start to rise, which improves the cognitive function. It also decreases the chances of Alzheimer’s disease.

We think that Neuriva Plus is definitely a better formula with these essential elements than Neuriva Original.

It also states to improve reasoning in addition to the benefits provided by the original formula. However, we do not find it as a miracle drug as well.

Does Neuriva work?

Although we cannot say if you will find any benefits in this supplement, if you still find any, that’s because phosphatidylserine is playing the most part.

To improve memory and focus, 100 mg of phosphatidylserine can be beneficial, but it does not match an actual nootropic stack.

Neuriva cannot do as much as a full-spectrum nootropic for you, but you can experience some minor increase in cognition after taking it for some time. Therefore, Neuriva leaves much to be desired.

There are many superior and effective supplements in the market than Neuriva. Therefore, we think it would be better to try them.

Final verdict:

After reviewing this supplement, we think that Neuriva does not offer much value to its user. Hence, it is not a potent supplement. If we compare it to other nootropics, it falls behind. Neuriva Plus is better than the original as it offers many benefits with potential ingredients. Yet, the formula remains devoid of other key ingredients. So, despite the effort, the upgraded version of Neuriva will not give you everything you need. We do not recommend this supplement to anyone who to effectively enhance their cognitive performance because it does have enough to offer.
