Playing sports with your friends, hitting the gym or simply walking your dog each day can be great way to stay in shape. However, it is possible to go too hard and put your health in jeopardy. If you experience any health problems while working out, it is important that you know how to find help in a timely manner.

You Could Experience an Asthma Attack

Asthma is a condition in which your airways constrict, which may make it difficult to breathe. In extreme cases, it may be necessary to call an ambulance or otherwise seek emergency care at a hospital. However, if you have an inhaler handy, it may be possible to reopen your airways in a matter of minutes. Drinking water may also be helpful when you have trouble breathing.

It is important for anyone who has asthma to check with their doctor before engaging in any sort of physical activity. It is also important to point out that the symptoms of asthma tend to be worse during cooler weather and may be further exacerbated by any allergies a person may have. Ironically, exercising may actually make your condition easier to manage in the long-term.

You Could Pull a Muscle or Break a Bone

There are few better feelings in life than breaking your personal record for most reps doing a bench press at 200 pounds. Unfortunately, if you don’t use good form, it is possible to pull or completely tear a muscle. Pulled muscles may heal themselves with rest, but torn muscles may only be healed with extensive rehab or surgery.

Broken bones may occur after tripping on a crack while running on the sidewalk or by putting too much weight on limb while doing an exercise. Although broken bones may take a while to heal, you can generally make a full recovery if you treat the break soon enough. If the bone is poking through the skin, seek help immediately as it may be a sign of a compound fracture.

Carelessness Could Result in Missing Teeth

If you engage in activities such as sparring with a boxing partner or engaging in MMA training, you could run the risk of having a tooth knocked out. A tooth could also be knocked out by hitting yourself in the face with a weight or tripping and falling while on the treadmill. Seeking local or MN dental care in a timely manner may make it possible to put the tooth back in your mouth. However, it is likely that you will have to settle for an implant or some other solution to fix your smile.

Exposed Skin Could Be Damaged

Anytime that you exercise outdoors, you have to plan on being exposed to ultraviolet rays from the sun. A sunburn is possible even during the winter months, and they can actually be more severe during that time of year as the sun’s rays intensify as they reflect off of snow and ice.

If you spend more than an hour or so outdoors without sunscreen or other protection, you could significantly damage your skin. In the short-term, a sunburn can cause extreme pain for several days. In the long-term, you could develop skin cancer or other issues if you don’t cover up while outdoors.

You are never too young or too old to make your health a top priority. Remember, even a few minutes of exercise each day or every few days can drastically improve your mood, provide you with energy and improve your physical health. However, it is important that you exercise with safety in mind. This means staying within responsible limits when running or lifting and exercising caution when sparring with others.
