Six Lucrative Jobs for Fitness Enthusiasts

Some physical fitness experts have been able to turn their passion into a career, and there’s plenty of room for others in the industry.

There are tons of career opportunities for those who want to help other people reach their fitness goals. Here are six of the highest paying jobs that you should pursue if you’re a true physical fitness enthusiast.

Salary Range: USD 45,000-70,000 per year

Anyone who is really into fitness knows that nutrition is a top priority. Especially for those who have completed a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, the future is bright. A good diet is as essential for a healthy lifestyle as fitness is, and nutritionists and dieticians are on the front lines, fighting against whole world’s obesity epidemic with education.

Some of the most viable careers for nutritionists or dieticians include working in hospitals, HMO’s or other health-care facilities, educating patients about nutrition and administering medical nutrition therapy as part of the health-care team. They plan food and nutrition programs, supervise the preparation and serving of meals, promote healthy eating habits and recommend dietary modifications.

They can also manage the food service operations in schools, day-care centers and correctional facilities, overseeing everything from food purchase and preparation to managing staff.

Personal Fitness Trainer

Salary Range: USD 40,000-60,000 per year

Of course, if you’re a fitness enthusiast, you can be an effective personal fitness trainer. As one of the fastest-growing occupations today, personal trainers work with clients on a one-on-one basis, either in a gym or at the client’s home.

They assess their client’s physical fitness levels, set fitness goals and keep records of the client’s progress. They also demonstrate various exercises and help clients improve their exercise techniques.

Salary Range: USD 40,000-80,000 per year

Using expertise in their chosen sport, coaches train, organize, instruct and teach amateur and professional athletes in their athletic field. A coach’s main goal is to improve an athlete’s skills and maximize physical potential while instilling good sportsmanship, a competitive spirit and teamwork.

It is quite important to take note that there’s a difference between a coach and a professional trainer. Many people probably aren’t familiar with the difference between personal trainers and fitness coaches in terms of the services that they can provide to their clients.

Personal trainers assist clients and guide them during gym sessions to perform effectively all the routines in their program schedule. They pay attention to the actual workout such as the number of sets, reps and lifts of specific activity. They may also keep an eye on your heart rates and maximum weight allotment when you lift.

The main focus of working with a trainer is that they can teach you how to best utilize your body without sustaining an injury. They know the techniques to keep you safe and how to implement those techniques for optimal performance. Athletic trainers are found in all levels of athleticism, from newbies working out for the first time all the way to the professionals pushing themselves to their limits.

A fitness coach, on the other hand, not only provides this same service, but can actually go a little further through building an actual personal relationship with the client. A coach’s goal is to reach clients on a mental, physical and social level. They are like teachers who work hand in hand with you to achieve the perfect body that you want. A personal trainer also makes sure that clients get the work done while fitness coaches take on the responsibility of your goals and make them their own.

Furthermore, coaches often do more than just develop an individual athletically. They also help their athletes develop life skills by holding them accountable in all aspects of their lives. Sometimes, they can be your shoulder to lean on or the one who kicks you in the butt and pushes you to get back on track. Unlike a trainer, who is interested in the physical side of athletics, a coach often puts more emphasis on the mental side of life.

If you’re a fitness enthusiast, and you’re great with interpersonal skills as well, you should consider being a fitness coach. The pay is good, and there are many people looking for one. Conversely, if you think that your interpersonal skills aren’t top notch but still want to help people reach their fitness goals, you’re in good shape to become a personal trainer.

Sports Instructors

Salary Range: USD 40,000-50,000 per year

Sports instructors are also different from coaches and personal trainers. Sports instructors demonstrate and explain the skills and rules of particular sports, like golf or tennis, to individuals or groups. They help beginners learn basic rules, stances, grips, movements, and techniques of a game. Sports instructors often help experienced athletes sharpen their skills.

From children to adults, sports instructors and physical education teachers instruct students individually or as a group. They organize, instruct and train athletes using their knowledge of sports, physiology and technique.

The bottom line is that sports instruction is also a career field that’s definitely viable for sports enthusiasts. There are many career options on this route, such as working as sports instructors in colleges or in fitness gyms.

Fitness Director/Gym Manager

Salary Range: USD 44,000-73,000 per year

Fitness managers are responsible for seeing that the administration and organization of a fitness club runs smoothly, from scheduling personal trainers to keeping up with and demonstrating continuing education. As long as there are gyms and fitness schools, there are career options for any fitness director.

Fitness directors also oversee the operations of a health club or fitness center while creating and maintaining programs that meet the needs of the club’s members. This is the type of career you can pursue if you’re also a bit of an expert in jobs such as sales, marketing and advertising.

Physical Therapist

Salary Range: USD 65,000-70,000 per year

Physical therapists (PTs) are quite in demand all over the world. As long as there are physically demanding activities, especially sports and recreation, there will always be a demand for physical therapists.

Physical therapy is a type of treatment you may need when health problems make it hard to move around and do everyday tasks. It helps you move better and may relieve pain. It also helps improve or restore your physical function and your fitness level. The goal of physical therapy is to make daily tasks and activities easier. For example, it may help with walking, going up stairs, or getting in and out of bed.

Physical therapists provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. Their patients include athletes suffering from injuries received while playing the sport or that might impede their performance, as well as accident victims and individuals with disabling conditions.

There’s also a consideration for a physical therapy assistant job. They still pay a good, around $50,000 up to even $62,000. PTAs work alongside PTs to assess, treat or plan programs to be implemented for the patient’s recovery.

PTAs, however, should perform clerical duties, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages and filling out forms. They also have specific duties like preparing treatment areas and electrotherapy equipment for use by physiotherapists.

Also, they administer active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, and heat, light, sound, water, and electrical modality treatments, such as ultrasound. If what you have is an associate’s degree, and a state exam, or maybe a license to practice, this might be a good job for you.
