How to Stay Motivated and Reach Your Goals When it Comes to Exercise

Many people love the thrill of getting started with a new exercise routine, the problem is sticking to that routine. Many exercisers get frustrated and give up when they don’t see results as quickly as they would like. Finding ways to stay motivated is important when trying to stay on track. Let’s take a look at these motivational strategies.

Keep a Journal
Write down your goals, and then, write down the actions you take to meet those goals. If you’re a runner, write down your best time on day one, then right down your times after every run. With just a little extra effort to track your progress, you can celebrate progress and identify problems before you get frustrated. You can also break down larger goals into baby steps, and celebrate the little victories along the way that will ultimately bring you closer to reaching your big goal.

Be Specific
If you want specific results, then make it known. The more specific your goals are, the more effective you’ll be at choosing exercises and balancing your nutrition to meet those goals. If you simply say, “I want to lose some weight,” but don’t commit to a number of pounds, then it can be tricky figure out what you need to do to reach those goals. A better way to state this goal would be, “I want to lose 8 pounds of body fat by September 15.” When you specifically state your goals, you can then visualize how you will look and feel at the end of your journey, and this will motivate you on days when you feel like giving up.

Surround Yourself with a Support Network
We all need encouragement and accountability. That extra push can challenge us to go even further than the goals we’ve set for ourselves. Knowledgeable friends, family members, or your healthcare practitioner are great examples. Don’t forget about fitness professionals. They can help save you time and mistakes. Learn about how Halevy Life health coaches can help you reach your fitness goals too. When you empower yourself with positivity and knowledgeable people, you will go much further.

Staying motivated can be a fitness goal, in and of itself, but by being specific, keeping records of your goals and progress, and building a strong support network, you can avoid many of the frustrations that cause others to give up. Try one or all of these strategies to motivate you to go further on your fitness journey.
