Last year, Americans spent more than $33 billion on cosmetics and beauty products. From scrubs and cleaners to at-home microdermabrasion, beauty products are a big business – and can become incredibly expensive for consumers. Luckily, there are many ways to take care of your skin and maintain natural beauty and elasticity without spending a fortune on products. Here are some great, simple ways to maintain healthy skin on a tight budget.

If you’re out in the sun for a long period of time, make sure you continue to apply sunscreen regularly, and cover up as much as you can. Wear wide brimmed hat and stay in the shade; if possible, cover your arms and legs with light clothing to protect even more.

Treat your skin gently –Although some parts of your body might include tough skin (think those rough calluses on your feet!) facial skin is deceptively fragile, and can react to many factors. Choose facial products made from natural oils or creams, such as Dove, and stay away from anything with an alcohol base. When you’re applying lotion to your face, apply in circular motions with a very light touch to avoid pulling.
