Drink Water to Lose Weight

Forget cleanses and diet pills. A recent study suggests that effective weight loss regime is available right from the tap of your sink.

Drink 2 8 ounces of glass before breakfast, dinner and lunch while also cutting back your portions can help you to lose weight and keep it off for 1 year, as proven in a research presented at annual meeting of American Chemical Society, Boston. Along with low calorie diet, added water can help in natural weight loss.

Dietitians suggest drinking water is a way to lose weight, however little research has done to prove this wisdom. Although small, Davy’s research is the first randomized trial to assess benefits of preloading with water before every meals, which included 48 obese or overweight males and females aged between 55 and 75 who were on low caloric diet i.e. 1200/day for females and 1500/day for males. Half of participant was instructed to drink 16 ounces of water before each meal. After 3 months, participants who took water before meals lost around 15.5 pounds, as compared to 11 pounds in control group. And the results appear to be lasting. After complete year of same routine, water drinkers had slimmed down by extra 1.5 pounds, as compared to nondrinkers who gained 2 pounds.

Although researchers aren’t sure why this encourages weight loss, however the main reason is that it fills your stomach, leading less space in stomach to take more which help you to take fewer calories. Additionally, drinking more water help you avoid guzzling soda and calorie laden beverages. The study used only plain water, not flavored, not mineral or vitamin waters. Even drinking water before each meal serves you as a reminder that you need to lose weight, psychologist suggests.

Drinking water is a risk free way to lose extra weight, particularly when it substitutes the space of other liquid calories, according to Stephen Cook, M.D., obesity expert at University Rochester Medical Center, in New York. Water is the easiest way to replace calories, and when everything is equal, it slow down weight gain or even reverse it more here LeahsFitness.Com

Davy states that individual who is on losing weight should bring refillable water bottle at work and drink water throughout the day, and try to have 2 cups of water before 20 minutes before every meal. While everyone hydration needs are not similar, it is suggested by Institute of Medicine that all  men and women must take around 3.7 and 2.7 liters of water each day, respectively, including the liquid in food and beverages.
