Whether they’re pills, powders, tablets, ready drinks, or anything else for that matter, there’s one thing that virtually all health officials and experts agree on – weight loss supplements can actually do a great deal more harm than good.
Losing fat is no easy task. We can literally spend hours working out each week, whilst carefully measuring and weighing our food, trying our best to make smart dietary choices, yet when the time comes to step on the scales, after weeks of hard work and mental anguish, we can often find ourselves dismayed to learn that we’ve only actually lost a pound or two. It can take weeks to lose fat, yet to gain it back; all it takes is one or two high calorie meals/snacks.
Because of this, it’s no wonder why so many people find themselves turning to fat loss supplements, yet sadly, some of these supplements do far more harm than good and can be considered very dangerous. Here’s a look at why SOME of these diet pills and fat loss supplements CAN be so dangerous, and a few safer alternatives instead.
The dangers of fat burners
Fat burners have been grabbing a lot of headlines recently, for all of the wrong reasons. Sadly there has been more than one instance, of people purchasing fat burners online, from non-reputable sellers from the other side of the world, not using the supplements correctly, not knowing which ingredients the supplements contain, and sadly, becoming very ill or even losing their lives. Even reputable fat burners and diet pills can be dangerous as they often contain large doses of stimulants which increase your heart rate and can lead to problems such as hypertension (high blood pressure), renal failure, cardiovascular disease, or even heart attacks. As previously mentioned maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not easy, and because these products can be purchased online from virtually anybody, there is the risk of purchasing products that are not safe for human consumption. There are a number of weight loss supplements and diet pills available from reputable companies that are perfectly safe when used correctly, but most experts agree that, when it comes to how to stay fit and healthy, the natural route is often the way to go.
Three healthy weight loss supplements
As far as healthy living goes, once you have the basic fundamentals under control i.e. – eat healthy, stay fit – you may wish to use specially designed supplements to help give you that little extra boost. Here are some supplements designed to promote weight loss that are considered very healthy and beneficial and are ideal for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Vitamin D is one of the most beneficial vitamins in the world, yet sadly a great deal of people suffers from vitamin D deficiencies. Not only does it increase calcium absorption and boost immunity, it also promotes fat loss as well. It does this by communicating with fat cells and helping them to become more sensitive to insulin. This in turn means that more fat is burned off as energy, instead of being stored as body fat for use at a later date. Vitamin D deficiencies also often lead to reduced leptin levels. Leptin is a hormone that basically tells your brain you are full, so the more leptin, the quicker you feel full.
Calcium and vitamin D work hand in hand with one another, as the vitamin D as previously mentioned, helps you to absorb more calcium. Studies have found that the more calcium that is stored within fat cells, instead of being absorbed by the body, the more fat these cells will also store. As far as weight loss goes, calcium binds to fat within a person’s GI tract, thus preventing it from being absorbed and stored as body fat.
Whey protein isn’t just for bodybuilders and people trying to build muscle, as studies have found that it also plays a significant role in weight loss. To begin with, protein is a thermogenic compound, which in basic terms means that the body struggles to digest it, and so it burns more calories just to digest it and break it down. This also helps to keep you feeling full. On top of that, protein promotes lean muscle mass, and as muscle requires more calories to maintain than fat, again, the metabolism is increased.
So by sticking to the healthy alternatives to dietary supplements, you can feel great as well as look great too!
